clarence john laughlin

He is a 40s 50s photographer who does haunting surreal photos of the American South. Abandoned houses, overgrown trees, choked-up rivers, and images of women, ephemeral, ghastly, spooky, but in a breathtaking way. I discovered him while browsing through coffee table books on abandoned southern ruins (apparently there's a whole genre, and they're mesmerizing). A lot of rusty, mossed New Orleans porches, winding staircases, and Southern Gothic styled similar to TrueBlood. Here is Clarence's most famous book collection: Ghosts Along the Mississippi.
