God what a rich combination reading these four texts along side, and after one another is. Set in four VERY different cities, San Francisco, New York, Paris, and Amsterdam come alive via the very intimate and reflective styles of these authors. They are powerful observers and aesthetic commentators on life....I highly recommend all of these books, but especially the Didion and Barbery. Reading beautifully crafted writing can really make you feel good to be alive....
