Center for Fiction

I recently discovered the perfect organization for my literary thirst. Center for Fiction hosts author events, music, reading groups, writing workshops and has a beautiful library, gift shop and elegant space for the bibliophile in busy Midtown. I signed up for membership as well as registered for their Contemporary Irish Fiction reading group. On the list are two books I've been meaning to read already(Let the Great World Spin, Brooklyn), and several other intriguing ones.

Truthfully, after college, the single most important thing I've missed is critical academic reading of literature and discussion with both an expert's guidance and like-minded people. CFF's reading groups are conducted by current professors and writers. Most groups are small (under 10), which will give me the intimate atmosphere I crave for an in-depth conversation.

I really do wish to have it all: be a teacher as well as be a student, for life. The two roles feed into each other in both obvious and undetectable ways and a busy schedule will not prevent me from pursuing my first love: of learning.
